The federation of St Kitts and Nevis took a step forward in securing the healthcare of its people as the Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew led the federal government in installing the first ever Computed Tomography (CT) scan machine facility at the JNF General Hospital today.
The state of the art 128 slice CT scan with injector is expected to help in diagnosis and detect the medical complexities early on so that the patients can be treated early on without any further delay.
The installed machine at the Joseph N France Hospital costed $2 million. In addition to this, the hospital is also set to get an MRI facility ongoing and construction is in full swing.
PM Drew in a statement said, “This facility will be the first public MRI and CT Scan service available in St Kitts and Nevis, enhancing the imaging service we provide to our citizens.”
“The people of St Kitts and Nevis deserve the best healthcare services, and these investments are a clear sign of our commitment to providing high quality affordable healthcare,” he added.
The CT scan machine is one of the only four units in the entire Caribbean region and is set to revolutionize the diagnostic capabilities of the doctors while treating patients. Both the facilities are part of a broader agenda to modernize the entire healthcare system in relation with the Sustainable Island State Agenda (SISA).
The main aim of the SISA is to ensure that St Kitts and Nevis remains at the forefront of health innovation.
The government has been actively working to upgrade the physical infrastructure of healthcare facilities of the island nation. There have been steps taken to train the medical workforce, and increase the availability of specialized services such as radiology across the federation.
PM Drew, who is also the Minister of Health has asked every citizen to continue supporting the improvements that have been going on in the medical field.
“These upgrades are for all of us. We ask for your continued support and patience as we work to transform healthcare delivery in St Kitts and Nevis, making it a model for the Caribbean.”
