Basseterre, St Kitts: The festive spirit of the Christmas fell upon the Government Headquarters and filled the air with melodious carols of Christmas on Tuesday, December 03, 2024 as a group of lively seniors arrived to spread holiday cheer.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew welcomed the senior singers and interacted with them, enjoying their lovely singing. He expressed delight that they decided to stop at the Government Headquarters during their carolling tour.
The seniors also expressed their happiness and many of them said that it was the first time they had been to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). They all expressed heartfelt gratitude to PM Terrance Drew for the support and welcome shown by him.
Debbie Benjamin, a senior home care officer from the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Ageing, and Disabilities, mentioned that it was amazing to see the face of the Prime Minister when they entered as he might not have been expecting so many of them.
It is to be noted that these seniors were members of the Senior’s Day Programme from St Peter’s, St Paul’s and Ponds Pasture. Additionally, these carollers are seniors who participate in the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Ageing and Disabilities’ Seniors Enrichment Programme.
PM Drew said that he expects the Seniors Day Programme that he adapted from a similar programme to expand to Cayon and other areas in the future as he is pleased with its overall local growth. He also said that the government will continue to fund this vital programme for the same.
Debbie Benjamin also said that seniors carry the message of joy and peace and bring tidings of comfort through song at local businesses.
Notably, the seniors also made stops at Sagicor and the St Christopher and Nevis Social Security on Tuesday and will continue to carol around Basseterre until December 17th, 2024.
