Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew met with the St Kitts and Nevis Chess Federation and extended his best wishes to the team for the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad that is scheduled to take place at Budapest, Hungary.
PM Drew shared the glimpses of meeting the Chess Team on his official Facebook account and noted that he recently engaged in a meeting with the SKN Chess Federation which is now in Hungary.
Notably, the St Kitts and Nevis Team is participating in the Chess Olympiad for the very first time in Budapest, Hungary.
The 2024 edition of the FIDE Chess Olympiad features 381 teams that will be competing in the tournament, which are divided in 194 open sections, and 184 teams as the Women’s Chess Olympiad. Such numbers of participation have broken the previous year’s record.

The Tournament has already commenced on September 10th, 2024 and will last till September 23, 2024.
Joining St Kitts and Nevis in the Chess Tournament Debut are Liechtenstein, Guernsey, Grenada, St Vincent & the Grenadines, US Virgin Islands, Saint Lucia, Nauru, and Cayman Islands.
Significantly, the St Kitts and Nevis Chess Team is being led and captained by John Richards in the tournament. The team shared the glimpses from the opening ceremony yesterday on September 12, 2024 through their official Facebook.
The SKN Team has also extended gratitude to the local sponsors, the government, and the chess community, as they have supported the nation in overcoming several challenges.
While sharing the pictures of the meet, the Prime Minister also stated that the administration has also partnered with the Chess Federation to introduce chess into schools, affirming the government’s commitment.
