Basseterre, St Kitts: The Government Offices of St Kitts and Nevis will re-open on Wednesday, 14 August, 2024 as tropical storm warning has been discontinued. The Tropical storm Ernesto has moved further away from the island nation due to which the threat has been reduced.
The acting Prime Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley took his Facebook to update the citizens of the nation about the re-opening of the Government offices as the threat of the Tropical Storm passes away.
The offices will open on Wednesday and the general public is advised to take note andplan accordingly.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) made an announcement on August 13, 2024 around the evening, that the Tropical Storm Warning has been discontinued.
The immediate threat from the Tropical Storm Ernesto has passed but the residual weather conditions may still be a risk. Residents are asked to be prepared for moderate to heavy showers, with the possibility of thunderstorms. Gusty winds and unstable surfaces are also expected.
These unfavourable conditions will also gradually reduce as the Tropical Storm Ernesto moves further away from the twin-island Federation.
Although the Tropical Storm Warning has been lifted, the government has urged the citizens to stay informed and prepared for any unexpected and sudden changes in the weather.
The residents are asked to stay on alert and continue monitoring the official and trusted channels, such as NEMA, SKNIS, and ZIZ Facebook pages, as well as the other local news platforms for more information or any further advisories.
Abdias Samuel, the National Disaster Coordinator, also emphasizes and expressed that the administration’s top priority is the safety of the citizens. He also expressed gratitude to everyone for their cooperation and responsiveness during this period.
It is also to be noted that the St Kitts and Nevis National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) will continue to provide necessary updates timely.
NEMA urged all the residents to continue remaining cautious especially when venturing or traveling on roads outside that may still have debris or standing water.
With the discontinuation of the Tropical Storm Warning, the administration of St Kitts and Nevis asked everyone to stay safe and vigilant.
