The St Kitts and Nevis Country mourns former Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Liburd, Lybee, who passed on Thursday night, January 18, 2024.
Joseph Liburd, made an impact on law enforcement and community building in Nevis profound, with his notable leadership of the PEACE program standing as a testament to his dedication.
Joseph Liburd began his career at the age of 18. Lybee’s valedictorian at the Advanced Detective Training in Barbados to obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Management, he marked numerous milestones.
Joseph Liburd was the first member of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force to earn a bachelor’s degree.
Joseph Liburd retired in 2010 at the age of 51, and he started to contribute to the SKN society. Joseph Liburd also Served on the Electoral Commission until 2022,
Joseph Liburd’s most life accomplishment was fostering peace through the PEACE programs, where he successfully mediated disputes between rival factions, witnessing former adversaries transform into friends
The SKN residents have taken to social media and expressed their heartfelt condolences to his family.
A user by the name of Ron Daniel took to Facebook and wrote ”There are some people who, when they pass you, have to pause. Then there are people, and because of their impact, the whole island pauses. Joseph Liburd is one such person, as his passing has left a massive space in Nevisian society”.
The SKN highlighted that Liburd was a man who, even as police, knew how to be relatable and real, and he was a man of principles and integrity. Furthermore, Liburd was described as someone who always listened to others and treated them all equally.
