St Kitts and Nevis launched the Pavilion at COP28 with special guests from the Republic of China (Taiwan).

The prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, started by recognizing the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment, and Climate Action and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the amazing job of coordinating and organizing the event.

Dr Terrance Drew described COP28 as a meeting where the world meets to discuss and find solutions to the problems of the world.

Dr Drew emphasized that St Kitts and Nevis, although being a small nation, will not be left behind but will be on the front dealing with the problem caused by climate change and be part of the solution, not the problem.

Dr Terrance Drew highlighted that Taiwan has contributed
significant solutions to deal with climate change. He thinks the world is indebted to Taiwan for its contribution to finding a solution to the difficulties that the world is facing at this time.

Dr Terrance Drew noted that the key point of the meeting was inviting Taiwan so that it could lend support and expertise to solving the climate change problem.

“St Kitts and Nevis and the wider Caribbean, we are resolved to create a sustainable island state. We are bold enough to say that it’s possible to be the first one that can be developed on this planet, not to our disadvantage, but to our advantage as our small size allows us to create a model that the rest of the world can look up to” noted Dr Terrance Drew.

The prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis thanked the the minister of energy for renegotiating 40 megawatts of solar power with battery storage capacity.

St Kitts is pursuing geothermal development in the twin islands, allowing the nationwide on the grown electric connection between the two islands.

PM Drew highlighted that an investment worth 350 USD million over the next five years could ensure that St. Kitts and Nevis go fully green with the capacity to provide clean energy to neighbouring countries.

Finally, Prime Minister Terrance Drew left the forum to Foreign Minister Dr Denzil Llewellyn Douglas to launch the pavilion.
