Nevis Red cross Society participates in Coastal Cleanup exercise

The Nevis branch of the St Kitts and Nevis Red Cross Society participated in the coastal cleanup. The initiative was spearheaded by the Nevis  which was hosted by the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society (NHCS) on Saturday, September 23, 2023.

The team of the Red Cross society engaged in coastal clean-up in the area of the Old Artisan Village. Our volunteers worked as a team to execute this activity. The Nevis Branch of the red cross society stated that they continue to do our part in keeping our island clean.

At the same time, the organization encouraged all of the volunteers and the wider general public to do their part and help protect our environment.

The organization also used this opportunity to collect plastic bottles and cans for their recycling initiative. The Nevis Historical and Conservation Society hosts the initiative every year. This is done to ensure that the surroundings of the island can remain clean and pristine.

Thirteen teams participated in the initiative including:

  • The Newcastle Foundation,
  • Concerned Citizens Movement,
  • Vizion Band,
  • Shekinnah Dance Theatre,
  • The Turtle Watchers club,
  • The Methodist Church Brigades,
  • Culture Queen contestants and Friends,
  • Friends of Jones Bay,
  • NHCS members
  • Nevis branch of the St Kitts and Nevis Red Cross Society

Other teams included individual volunteers from across the island of Nevis participated in cleaning up the beaches. The following beaches were cleaned up as a part of the initiative:

  • Pinney’s beach,
  • Lover’s beach,
  • Cotton Ground beach,
  • Fort Charles,
  • Gallows Bay,
  • O.N. Radio beach,
  • Bath Stream,
  • Charlestown Bay Front,
  • New River.

The volunteers were treated to a special picnic at Bath Hotel organised by Society staff. The Nevis Historical and Conservation Society have extended a special shout-out to Patrice Richards for goat water, Trevor Carbo Cornelius for the cook up, Boddie’s Restaurant, Carib Brewery St Kitts & Nevis LTD.

They said a special thanks to Andrew Advizor Prentice the entire team at Nevis Solid Waste Management Authority for their assistance and support.
