The premier of Nevis and Leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement, Mark Brantley recently took to his social media account to share his appreciation and delight on the visit of the prime minister Dr Terrance Drew to the independence day celebration of Nevis. The premier noted that the 2023 celebration of independence day featured all the leaders of St Kitts and Nevis coming together for the celebration.
He appreciated the prime minister and his team for gracing the island of Nevis with their presence during the independence day celebrations. He also shared his appreciation to the team for making efforts to heal long-standing rifts between the Federal government and the Nevis Island Administration.
He drew the attention of the people to the fact that the two administrations are in the middle of seeking to put good governance ahead of party politics. He also noted that the governments led by Dr Terrance Drew and Premier Mark Brantley is trying to give cooperation and goodwill a chance instead of the usual rancor and confusion which have bedeviled our Nation for nigh 40 years.
In line with this, he recounted some significant developments spearheaded by the central government to increase cooperation between the NIA and the central government. Under the chairmanship of Cabinet Secretary Dr Marcus Natta, the Independence Committee had membership from Nevis. Further, for the first time in history the committee approved funding for independence activities on both the island of St Kitts and Nevis.
He highlighted another significant aspect of this year’s independence day celebration. He noted that even more Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew journeyed to Nevis to be part of the Independence Day parade in Nevis. He is the first Prime Minister in 40 years to do so.
The premier of Nevis stated that with the activities and appointments that were already in his schedule to attend, he did not have to make that effort but he and members of his Cabinet did. He stated believe that Dr Terrance Drew understood the history and the incredible symbolism of him being on Nevis and among Nevisians on this historic 40th anniversary of independence.
