The prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, has shared a significant update on the achievements that his administration has counted in for the benefit of the people. It is important to note that the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party has completed their first year in administration.
Under their leadership, the country has come a long way in several sectors and aspects of nationhood. The prime minister, and minister of Finance, health, social security, et al., understand the significance of education and youth development in the country.
Education is one of the most important indicators of a nation’s development. Accordingly, the administration led by Dr Terrance Drew has remained committed to bringing quality and affordable education to the country’s people. The Prime Minister announced free tuition to the students enrolled in or starting their education at Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College.
This decision on the part of the prime minister was initially met with a lot of applause and appreciation. The people of the country have been able to get access to some quality education in the country. It is one of the most significant achievements of the people.
Dr Terrance Drew stated that The path to a “Sustainable Island State” must include the active engagement of our youth. According to him, this is especially true in the Creative Economy. According to Dr Drew, Education is the cornerstone of national progress, sustainability and upward mobility for our people.
The Prime Minister announced some of his government’s achievements regarding education and the provision of scholarships. These achievements are:
- The government Located a site for Special Education & Spectrum Services Centre
- The Drew-led administration worked on introducing STEAM programmes in primary schools
- They Merged Estridge & Edgar T Morris Primary Schools
- The Terrance Drew-led administration granted economic costs to all UWI students
- The administration Provided Travel Allowance for Early Childhood Resource Teachers
- Created Teacher Education Award
- The Ministry of Youth Empowerment successfully hosted of 40th Annual Summer Residential Camp
Meanwhile, they recorded the following achievements in terms of sports and entertainment:
- The government launched the “Let’s Do This!” reality show on MOENT TV
- Successfully hosted Sugar Mas 51
- Successfully hosted the CONCACAF Caribbean Club Shield
- Officially launched the Department of Creative Economy
- Successfully hosted the 25th St Kitts Music Festival
