The National Assembly will observe their latest sitting on February 8, 2023. During the sitting, the national assembly, headed by Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, will sit in deliberation over the laws that will be presented to them. The sitting of the National Assembly will be presided over by the speaker of the national assembly, Kahnen Blanchette.
The General Assembly sitting will further consist of the deputy speaker, Latoya Biyanca Jones and parliamentary representatives of the people of St Kitts and Nevis. These representatives would discuss six bills of national importance for the first time. Meanwhile, two federal bills will recieve their second readings during the session.
The proceedings of the national assembly on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, will consist of the first and second readings of 6 bills to turn them into laws. The following bills will receive the first readings during the assembly:
- Caribbean Community and Africa Export-Import Bank (Agreement for the Establishment of a Partnership) Bill, 2023
- Criminal Records (Rehabilitation of Offenders) (Amendment) Bill, 2023
- Integrity in Public Life (Amendment) Bill, 2023 Anti-Corruption Bill, 2023
- Freedom of Information (Amendment) Bill, 2023
- Official Gazette Bill, 2023
Meanwhile, the following two bills will receive their Second Readings during the February 8, 2023 session:
- Criminal Records (Rehabilitation of Offenders) (Amendment) Bill, 2023.
- Official Gazette Bill, 2023
The members of the ruling political party, St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP), including the Prime Minister and minister of national security et al., Dr Terrance Drew, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Gender Affairs, et al., Dr Geoffrey Hanley, Minister of Sustainable Development, Senator Dr Joyelle Clarke, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Samal Duggins, and more will deliberate the bills with a five-member composition of the Federal Opposition, led by the premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley.
The national assembly session will be broadcast live for the people of St Kitts and Nevis on ZIZ Radio (96.1 FM) and participating radio stations. It can also be viewed live on TV Channel 5 in St. Kitts and Channel 98 in Nevis. It will also be streamed live at www.zizonline.com.
