The guyfest community festival committee hosted the GuyFest J’Ouvert on Saturday, November 5, 2022. The event took place in the Old road town of St Kitts. J’ouvert or Jour ouvert is a traditional “break day” festival that serves as the unofficial start of Carnival.
The event is most famous for observance in the Caribbean Regions. St Kitts and Nevis’ GuyFest had the renowned Small Axe Band in attendance, who played at the festival on Saturday. The attendants had a great time attending the festival, which started at 5:00 PM. The organizers of the GuyFest J’ouvert did not specify the end time of the event.
Several individuals from the local Old road town area attended the event. Among the locals, a prominent politician, the Minister of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet, Samal Duggins, was also in attendance at the event.
Minister of Agriculture, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Cooperatives, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Sports and the Creative Economy, Samal Duggins, recently attended the GuyFest.
Following the GuyFest, Minister Duggins took to his social media account to share his experience. He wrote on his Facebook account. I had a grand time this weekend at The GuyFest J’Ouvert.
According to the Minister of Creative Economy, Our community festivals play an important role in preserving and celebrating our culture. They provide so many economic, social and developmental opportunities.
Further, Minister Duggins stated in his Facebook post that the Ministry of Creative Economy was thrilled to have supported this amazing festival.
In the spirit of motivating the cultural representation of St Kitts and Nevis in the region, the Minister of Creative Economy extended his congratulations to the runner-up of the National Carnival Queen. The latter represented the Federation at the 2022 Miss OECS Pageant.
