The Cayon community of St Kitts and Nevis has been facing a water crisis since the beginning of the year. The root of the problem emerged from insufficient rainfall for the rain season. As the country only recieved 60% of the required rainfall in the region, the country struggled, for months due to water crisis.
The Cayon community was hit worse than the others as the situation of water supplies has remained delicate for the community for several years. Recently, the administration of St Kitts and Nevis has been diligently sorting through the issue and providing respite to the community’s people.
In line with this, the water department of St Kitts and Nevis has shared a schedule to benefit the community members. The water department has clarified that a Water Service Interruption is currently Affecting Cayon.
Accordingly, the Water Services Department wishes to inform the customers and members of the community at Cayon that the current extremely low levels are due to a fault on our Well at Lodge, which supplies Cayon.
They shared that the department expects to have the repairs completed by tomorrow, Tuesday, August 29—the officials of the water services department. The repair work will bring the water level for the community supply upward for the benefit of the people who are struggling with the shortages in the supply
The Water Services Department of St Kitts has shared a message stating that they apologize for the inconvenience being experienced by our customers.
The leaders of the St Kitts and Nevis have sought various ways to get past the situation in the community. The administration has employed the services of the drilling corporation BEAD to complete the drilling work in the Cayon Community.
In a recent update shared by the water services department, Repairs to the Well located at Ottleys Village which supplies water to Cayon was completed this evening.
Customers above the Anglican Church would have service tonight until about 5:00 am.
Lower Cayon would have Water service restored from 6:00 am tomorrow, Wednesday. Our rationing schedule remains in effect however due to inadequate supply capacity to meet the demand.
