St Kitts and Nevis: In a bid to reinforce ties and explore avenues for enhanced collaboration, an official delegation from the APPG – All Party Parliamentary Group of St Kitts and Nevis is on an official visit to the twin-island nation. The APPG met Prime Minister Terrance Drew, the Cabinet Ministers, and specially invited guests on Monday, August 28, 2023.
The official delegation includes the Chair of the APPG-SKN, Daniel Kawczynski; Vice Chair of the APPG-SKN, Lisa Cameron; Parliamentary Aide in the Office of Daniel Kawczynski, Scott Sherlock; and all of whom are dedicated to deepening the partnerships and fostering higher opportunities for bilateral trade.
While extending a warm welcome to the delegation, PM Terrance Drew highlighted the shared values and aspirations that demonstrate the relationship between St Kitts and Nevis and the United Kingdom. He also stressed the importance of collaboration between both nations.
PM Drew outlined that this official visit of the All Party Parliamentary Group illustrates a significant stride in the journey to boost cooperation, strengthen trade ties and promote mutual understanding between St Kitts and Nevis and the UK.
As per the authorities, the delegation is scheduled to meet with Her Excellency Dame Marcella Liburd, GCMG, JP, Governor-General of St Kitts and Nevis.
The All Party Parliamentary Group was inaugurated earlier this year in the House of Commons, which marked a significant moment for the Federation. The Government of St Kitts and Nevis highlighted that this group holds two major objectives, which include championing the interests of the island nation within the UK across various domains and easing the expansion of trade possibilities between the two countries.
According to the information, the APPG delegation will extensively engage with the government of St Kitts and Nevis with the aim of getting important, valuable insights into the nation’s priorities and policy directions.
Furthermore, the delegation will also take an Investment Tour of the Federation and will meet the representatives from the private sector. During this engagement, they will foster a dialogue on strategies to amplify and nurture bilateral trade opportunities. They will also partake in a tour around the Joseph N. France General Hospital.
The recent visit is in line with the Government’s goals stated in the Prime Minister’s 2023 Budget Address. Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew confirmed the government’s commitment to the seven essential pillars, including food security, green energy transition, sustainable industries, the Creative Economy, COVID-19 recovery, social protection, and equal access to education from nursery to the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC).
The transformation of the twin island nation into a sustainable island state is a testament to PM Drew’s dedication to securing a resilient and prosperous future for all citizens. Also, the government underlines its unwavering resolve to establish the country as a centre of excellence for healthcare. This includes assuring universal access to high-quality medical facilities demonstrating the government’s determination to protect the well-being of every individual.
The delegation further said that upon their return to the UK, they will be preparing a comprehensive report that will be presented in front of the House of Parliament and the Foreign Office, summarising their observations, insights and recommendations.
