Basseterre, St Kitts: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew has been honoured by the City of Philadelphia in the United States of America (USA) with a citation in recognition of the significant contribution to the political landscape in the twin island Federation, and also for his contributions in the field of medicine.
The Prime Minister was honoured during the 8th Caribbean Emancipation Day Celebration that was hosted by the Jamaican Diaspora Northeast in Philadelphia on August 1, 2024.
The event was highlighted by an evening of ceremonial service and a reception celebrating Caribbean Emancipation from British Colonial Rule within the diaspora. The featured part of the evening was a video presentation by PM Dr Drew.
The Citation that recognised PM Drew read that “The Council of the City of Philadelphia and the Mayor’s Commission on African and Caribbean Immigrant Affairs are pleased and proud to honour and recognise Prime Minister Dr Terrance Michael Drew.”
The citation mentioned how PM Drew has been instrumental in shaping the political landscape of the nation through his work with St Kitts Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) and his contributions to the health care sector.
It had all the details of the Prime Minister such as where he was raised to how he developed a passion for medicine at a young age. It also mentioned the schools and colleges where Dr Drew had done his degree from.
The citation also stated how Dr Drew is a certified and practising physician, specialising in Internal Medicine and how his medical career is characterised by his dedication to providing high-quality healthcare to the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis.
“Dr Drew’s entry into politics was driven by his commitment to improving the lives of the people of St Kitts and Nevis through his effective governance and public service,” read the citation.
PM Drew has been a strong advocate for education and youth development, promoting policies that enhance educational opportunities and vocational training of young people.
“Dr Terrance Drew is known for his humility and dedication to his community. He balances his demanding political career with his medical practice ensuring that he remains connected to the people he serves,” the citation stated.
Therefore, by Virtue of this Citation the Council of the City of Philadelphia and the Mayor’s Commission on African and Caribbean Immigrant Affairs is proud to honour Prime Minister Drew. The authority also extended their sincere respect and admiration of his legislative body.
