Geoffrey Hanley- Member of Parliament for the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party, released a statement on Thursday alleging that Speaker Micheal Perkins refused to hear his questions in the National Assembly.
In a letter, as required by parliamentary procedures, Dr Hanley wrote to the Speaker informing and documenting his intent to ask the Minister of National Security a question on behalf of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Hanley, in his letter, said that the question sought clarity from the National Security Minister to provide the House and the people of St. Kitts and Nevis with information as to how and why Mr Ramon Olorunwa Abbas of Nigeria, aka Hushpuppi, received St. Kitts and Nevis citizenship.
Full statement of Geoffrey Hanley
This is a very relevant question as the good name of St Kitts-Nevis continues to be trolled in the regional and international media over this latest corruption scandal.
To the people’s dismay, and as instructed by Timothy Harris himself, Speaker Perkins refused to allow Hon. Dr. Hanley to ask his question in the House. The people of the Federation have over the last two weeks have been demanding answers from the government on the Hushpuppi matter, but have been met with stoic silence from the Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr Timothy Harris. The Parliament is where the people’s business should be addressed, but the Speaker and the government cabal continue to thwart the will of the people.
We need answers!
1. Was it Timothy Harris who advised Hushpuppi to go through the route of marriage to acquire an SKN passport instead of through the CBI, in an attempt to avoid the due diligence process?
2. Did Timothy Harris sign the certificate without doing his own due diligence?
3. Was it Timothy Harris or one of his agents who assisted Hushpuppi with the forging of a marriage certificate?
4. How did Hushpuppi manage to get his application for marriage expedited?
5. Why was Hushpuppi required to pay US$50k for a marriage certificate?
6. Did any of the money go into the government coffers or did it end up in a private bank account like the PLP campaign funds?
The nation needs answers! But once again, the Speaker denies us the opportunity!
