The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs; Economic Development and Investment, Dr Denzil Douglas, has travelled to Lima, Peru. He has travelled out of his home country to attend the 52nd Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS).
The 52nd edition of the OAS General Assembly is held from October 5-7, 2022. The OAS will host the event at the Lima Convention Centre.
During the event, the Foreign Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Denzil Douglas, will get a chance to interact with counterparts from across the hemisphere. World leaders attending the event will discuss crucial issues regarding strengthening democracy, promoting and protecting human rights, multidimensional security, and integral development. All these issues are considered the key pillars of the OAS.
The OAS General Assembly is being hosted under the theme, ‘Together Against Inequality and Discrimination’. The Former Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis will also deliver the national statement outlining the nation’s foreign policy priorities.
Further, Dr Denzil Douglas will reiterate and stress the commitment of St Kitts and Nevis to the principles and values espoused in the Charter of the OAS.
St Kitts and Nevis got the chance to join the Organisation of American States in 1984.
Along with the minister of Foreign Affairs, Sonia Boddie-Thompson, Counsellor and Alternate Representative of the Permanent Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis to the OAS, is also travelling to Peru to attend the event.
In the final week of September, Dr Denzil Douglas was away from St Kitts and Nevis on a similar foreign expedition. He attended the United Nations General Assembly along with the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew.
During the event, Dr Douglas got a chance to interact with several world leaders. During this meeting, he also worked on furthering relationships between St Kitts and Nevis and the rest of the world.
