Prominent Leaders of the caribbean, including St Kitts and Nevis opposition leader Timothy Harris and Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerit have extended their best wishes to the newly elected prime minister of United Kingdom, Liz Truss

The leader of the People’s Labour Party (PLP) took to his Facebook and Twitter accounts to extend his greetings to the newly elected leader of the United Kingdom, sharing identical posts.

He wrote:

Congratulations to the new incoming U.K. PM, the Honorable
@trussliz I wish the administration well as it deals with a myriad of domestic & international challenges. The response to these have significant ramifications for small island developing states like #stkittsandnevis

Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, also shared a congratulatory message addressed to the (then) Prime Minister Elect.

He wrote, “On behalf of the people and Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, I send my warmest congratulations to @trussliz on being declared the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. I anticipate the continuance of our firm and cordial cooperation.”

Mary Elizabeth Truss, better known to her political peers as Liz Truss, was the former Foreign Secretary under the leadership of Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Boris Johnson had to resign from his position as the country’s Prime Minister following a scandal ridden term at the office.

She was competing against the former Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Saunak, for the leadership position of the Conservative Party. Truss was elected as the next and newest leader of United Kingdom following an internal election on September 5, 2022.

She was further appointed as the Prime Minister by the Queen, who oversaw the ceremony at her Scotland residence, where she is spending her summer.

Liz Truss is the fourth Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, appointed by the Conservative Party since the country hosted their last elections in the year 2015

She was elected as the new head of the Government following a leadership contest. Liz Truss received 81,326 votes from the members of the Conservative Party, compared to her competitor Rishi Sunak who lost to her after receiving a total of 60,399 votes.
