The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) has laid out a long and comprehensive manifesto for the people ahead of the elections. The elections are scheduled for Wednesday, January 18, 2022. The Gaston Browne-led administration has detailed plans to expand the tourism sector.
Further, they also want to utilize the tourism industry to create more and more jobs for the people. The ABLP has a vision for Tourism at the next higher level. This vision for the industry extends way into the future. The political party is aware that tourism development requires planning for both the immediate and the medium term.
In light of this, the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party administration has worked out a plan starting from Day one of the government’s re-election. This plan aims to create more jobs and better-paying jobs. The government intends to allow Antiguans and Barbudans to empower themselves by taking advantage of the many ownership opportunities in providing ancillary services presented by the major projects the ABLP government will implement.
The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority will ensure that by 2028, travel and tourism will contribute US$1 billion directly to the economy. Further, according to this plan, the country will be among the most recognized destinations worldwide.
The ABLP administration will work closely with its private sector partners to achieve this objective. The ABLP government will work with Global Port Holdings to develop the Harbourfront. As per the ABLP Manifesto, Global Ports will spend at least US$100 million on the shops, restaurants, boardwalks, and entertainment facilities.
The entertainment facilities include a theatre – all of which are available to Antiguans and Barbudans. In addition to the facilities, the government will partner with private partners to create a world-class terminal building, a casino, and a spa. The government will also offer the locals of Antigua and Barbuda 25% of the capital to start profitable businesses in the Tourism sector.
