Thursday’s Appeal Court ruling has further energised the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) as the party gears up for the soon to be called general elections.
National Political Leader, the Rt Hon Dr Denzil Douglas was held shoulder high and carried to the stage in view of the thousands attended the meeting and viewed or listened via the various media platforms.
Over 1,000 persons world wide watched the stream of the meeting and over 10,000 viewed after the meeting finished. All of the NextGen candidates and Dr Douglas addressed the meeting.
“The Appeal Court’s ruling as a ‘Saul-like experience’ when the Apostle was on the road to Damascus,” said the spokesperson, who noted that following the 2015 general elections, the Timothy Harris administration, in what has been described as a naked act of political victimization, revoked Dr. Douglas’ diplomatic passport in spite of the fact that he is a distinguished statesman, having served the people of St. Kitts and Nevis as Prime Minister for twenty years and was now the Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition of St. Kitts and Nevis.
“When the diplomatic passport was issued to him as a courtesy by the government of Dominica, the Harris administration used this as a pretext to initiate legal action under Section 28 of the Constitution of St. Christopher and Nevis. The court of first instance ruled in favour of Dr. Douglas but this was overturned by the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal on March 12, 2020 and ordered, among other things, that Dr. Douglas vacate his seat in Parliament immediately,” the spokesperson said.
She noted that at Thursday’s public political meeting in Fig Tree, Sandy Point, Dr Douglas elaborated his views on the ruling at the public meeting, stating, that while he strongly disagrees with the ruling, he will respect and abide by the Court’s decision.
“This ruling has brought us closer to the election that Timothy Harris is mortally afraid to call whether it takes place through a by-election or a national general election.”
Labour Party supporter, Gealta Langley asking what did Prime Minister Harris achieve by his vindictiveness and spite, noted that Dr Douglas “is still the candidate and winner for #6..”
It was pointed out that Dr Harris’ “two (2) misappropriated candidates are bringing shame and disgrace to St Kitts and Nevis” and face suspension or debarred from practicing for misappropriating US$460,000 (EC$1.2 million) from a client, breach of trust and breach of fudiciary duties.
“God has been Good to Douglas and all that Tim Harris tries will fail,” she said.
