The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, has extended his heartfelt gratitude to the government of Switzerland for their generous contribution towards the development of the healthcare sector in St Kitts and Nevis.
The government of Switzerland made a generous financial contribution to the major health institution in St Kitts, The Joseph N France General Hospital.
Prime Minister took to his Facebook account to share his appreciation and gratitude for the gesture of the Swiss Government. PM Drew wrote:
I extend deep appreciation to the Government of Switzerland for their recent contribution towards developing the healthcare sector of St Kitts and Nevis with a financial donation to Joseph N France General Hospital.
The Minister of Health, Dr Terrance Drew further pointed out that the Government of St Kitts and Nevis shares a longstanding relationship with the Government of Switzerland. He emphasized that they are grateful for their continued support.
The Swiss Confederation, through their Honorary Consulate General in St Kitts and Nevis, donated twenty thousand United States dollars (US$20,000) to the Joseph Nathaniel France General Hospital.
The donation and contribution occurred on Thursday, December 8, 2022, during a brief ceremony in the hospital’s conference room.
In the symbolic presentation, Honorary Consul General of Switzerland Ernest Amory said. “The Swiss Government has long had a longstanding relationship with St. Kitts and Nevis. Over the years, the Government of Switzerland has offered assistance in various fields, like education and technical assistance.” On December 9, he gave a cheque to the JN France General Hospital to assist with their needs.
Director of Health Institutions in the Ministry of Health, Dr Jenson Morton, accepted the financial contribution. Following the ceremony, he indicated that the monetary donation would improve surgical services at the hospital.
Dr Morton declared, “The funding is much needed, and the hospital authorities will use it to improve specifically the surgical services of the hospital and the functioning of the Operating Theatre.”
Dr Morton thanked the Consulate General of Switzerland and Earnest Amory for handing over the funds.
The minister of health, and Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew was not present at the ceremony. Although he shared his gratitude through his Facebook account. Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Dr Delores Stapleton Harris, executive body of the hospital and important members of the JNF Hospital’s surgical staff were present at the handover ceremony.
