Dr Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis attended the Women’s Empowerment Project’s International Forum on December 8 2022. The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) organised the forum. The Cabinet of Ministers also accompanied Dr Drew at the event.
Dr Terrance Drew shared an update regarding the event on his social media accounts on Friday, December 9, 2022. The theme under which the embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) hosted the event was: “Towards a New Frontier: Promoting Sustainable Development in the Eastern Caribbean through Women’s Economic Empowerment.”
The Women’s Empowerment Project was launched in 2021. The project aims to strengthen women’s economic empowerment by providing the resources they need to support entrepreneurship through vocational training and counselling.
In the update that Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew shared on his social media account, he strongly advocated for women’s empowerment and gender equality.
He believes that women have suffered a lot over the years. Further, he believes in raising women’s status through education, raising awareness and literacy, and providing opportunities for advancement.

Additionally, the Minister for Commerce, Manufacturing, Business Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs in the government of Saint Lucia, Emma Hippolyte; Cierra Saylor from the U.S. Embassy in Barbados, and other notable dignitaries were also in attendance at the event.
During the event, Ambassador Lin gave an overview of the project. He noted that two hundred (200) trainees benefitted from the vocational training courses in less than fifteen months. Additionally, sixty (60) trainees received start-up grants.
Further, the project offered one hundred and twenty (120) micro, small and medium-sized enterprises counselling services under the Women’s Empowerment Programme.
