St Kitts and Nevis: Sunset Reef Resort is all set to operate with 100% green energy through the installation of the sustainable energy storage system, announced by Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew.

At the tradition ceremony held in Palmetto Point on Tuesday, PM Drew Minister responsible for energy Konris Maynard, and owner of Sunset Reef, David Fletcher, flipped the switches to activate the new system.

He referred to the system as “a step towards turning St Kitts and Nevis into a Sustainable Island State,” marking the proper use of the natural resources. Sunset Reef Resort- a 50star boutique resort is all set to become the first resort to activate its sustainable energy storage system in the Caribbean region.

Prime Minister Dr Drew expressed that Sunset Reef Resort’s environmentally friendly venture is an initiative toward the government’s vision of creating a green island state.

“It’s a new type of technology, new to the Caribbean, people are excited about it and I am extremely excited so I want to thank David for really coming through on what we had decided upon some months ago , and to see that it has really come to fruition really pleases my heart,” Dr Drew added.

Green energy transition is included in the seven key pillars on which the government of St Kitts and Nevis aims to build a sustainable island.

Furthermore, PM drew emphasized the government’s goal of building renewable energy space in St Kitts and Nevis. The government also aims at enhancing economic development at a larger pace, and as human beings, it is the responsibility of each one of us to protect the planet.

“I want to say to our citizens that this is a day that we have been waiting for where we can introduce this technology and signal to the world that St kitts and Nevis intends to be a part of the solution,”Prime Minister Drew said.

He further added,”Today marks a historic moment in Saint Kitts and Nevis as Sunset Reef Resort, a 5-star boutique resort located in Palmetto Point, proudly activated its Sustainable Energy Storage System, making it the first of its kind not just in Saint Kitts and Nevis, but the entire Caribbean region.”

PM Drew added that the by harnessing renewable energy sources like solar power and storing it efficiently, the government is proud to say that Sunset Reef Resort, already recognized regionally and internationally for its sustainable practices, is now operating at 100% green energy!

“Join us in celebrating this monumental step towards a greener and more sustainable future for Saint Kitts and Nevis. Together, let’s continue to inspire positive change and protect our planet for generations to come,”said the prime minister.
