The local authorities of St Kitts and Nevis recovered major drugs on a cargo boat, MV Elizabeth C, at the St. Kitts Deep Water Port on October 4, 2022. On Monday, July 3, 2023, Renold Benjamin sentenced Four culprits to Prison on multiple drug possession and importation counts.
The contraband the authorities in St Kitts recovered in October 2022 consisted of cocaine and Cannabis. The cocaine weighed 801.3 kilograms (1,762.86 pounds). The drug was valued at seventy-one million three hundred and sixty-nine thousand one hundred dollars ($71,369,100).
Meanwhile, Cannabis is valued at $140,160. The court has issued an order under Section 27 of the Drug Act to confiscate the vessel, MV Elizabeth C. The vessel is currently in the Tortola territorial waters.
The first of the four accused is Saleem Kevin Ali. He is a resident of Trinidad. The culprit was sentenced to three years for Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Supply—three years for Importing Cannabis. The authorities have clarified that his sentence will run concurrently at His Majesty’s Prison.
The second accused is Peter Oliver Scotland, a resident of Trinidad, who was sentenced to five years and four months. The authorities charged him with the Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Supply. Different charges are, Five years and four months for the Importation of Cocaine and five years and four months for the Possession of Cocaine. His sentences will also run concurrently.
The third culprit, Micheal Jevan Jack, got sentenced to three years for the Importation of Cannabis and three years for the Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Supply. His sentences will run concurrently.
Desue Mc Farlane of Carricacou was sentenced for eight ( years and four months for Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Supply. He was further sentenced to eight years and four months for the Importation of Cocaine;
He received four years and ten months for the Importation of Cannabis, four years and ten months for the Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Supply, and eight years and ten months for the Possession of Cannabis. His sentences will run concurrently.
The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force have once expressed their gratitude and commendation to the various authorities, St Kitts and Nevis Customs Enforcement Division and St Kitts and Nevis Defence Force Coast Guard Operational Division for their collaboration and assistance.
