Basseterre: Social activities in St. Kitts and Nevis are likely to increase in the coming weeks and months, given the significant improvement by authorities in the control and management of the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the Oct 20 edition of the National Emergency Operations Center’s COVID-19 Informational Conference, Police Superintendent Cromwell Henry noted the improvement in the situation on the ground and praised residents.
“As our situation improves, we promise you that you will see a gradual easing of restrictions and we have,” he said. “As we become more liberal with social activities, we ask that you do your part to make sure your event is COVID-19 compliant so that we can further expand the range and size of activities that we allow. We will reward their good behavior. ”
Social activities are currently restricted as part of regulations to slow the spread of the virus. To host social activities, the permission of the Police Commissioner must be requested. Applicants must submit a COVID-19 compliance plan that will be considered along with the application form.
Superintendent Henry pointed out several factors that will improve the chances of a successful application.
“Other factors that we consider when processing these requests are the size of the venue; the number of people who will attend the event; the location of the event, that is, whether indoor or outdoor events are preferable; the event format, etc.” He affirmed.
If approval is granted, a list of requirements is sent to the organizer. Conditions will be monitored by law enforcement and compliance officers to ensure that everything is in order. Any non-compliance will result in action by the compliance team and ultimately affect the approval of future permits.
Superintendent Henry emphasized the importance of all people, whether at a social event, work, church, school, or in public spaces, following non-pharmaceutical measures to protect themselves from contracting COVID-19. These include wearing face masks, sanitizing hands, maintaining physical distance, and avoiding large crowds. He also encouraged everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
