Over 183 affordable homes have been handed over to families in St Kitts and Nevis under the “Climate-Smart Housing Project” of the government. Around 79 new homes are currently under construction in different regions and areas, aiming to provide roofs on the heads of the citizens and enhance the sustainable island state agenda.
The announcement was made by Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew during the press conference and noted that the Ministry of Housing will deliver more keys to homes to beneficiaries and citizens in the coming time. In addition to that, the Ministry of Housing is also constructing apartments in different regions of St Kitts and Nevis and expanding urban access to affordable houses.
The government of St Kitts and Nevis has collaborated with the National Housing Corporation (NHC) for the construction of high-quality, climate-resilient and affordable houses for its citizens. The aim of the project is to assess the housing needs of the citizens while enhancing the sustainable island state agenda.
Several regions including St. Peter’s, Sandy Point and Ottley’s have featured the construction of the new homes for fulfilling their agenda. Under the project, the government is aimed at constructing more than 2,000 homes across the island. The agenda for the construction of 2400 homes is decided by the government of St Kitts and Nevis with 600 homes expected to be delivered annually within the period of six years.
