Dr Terrance Drew, the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, has announced an all-clear after the passage of the Tropical Storm Phillipe. The people of the island were under a strict storm watch until the tropical storm passed. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) shared the update about the situation in the country and removed the storm watch.
After receiving the all-clear from NEMA, the Prime Minister conveyed the message for the same on his social media. The official all-clear notice comes into effect starting October 4, 2023 , at 6:00 AM. While the all-clear means there are no immediate adverse effects from the Tropical Storm, the country’s people must remain cautious.
Weather reports have suggested that the lingering effects of the Tropical Storm will likely lead to rainfall. Accordingly, the government means that people must take necessary safety and security precautions. The official release from the government states there is no major threat of storm-force winds from Tropical Storm Philippe.
However, there may be some lingering moisture in the atmosphere from the tropical disturbance. Accordingly, The government of St Kitts and Nevis asked residents to exercise caution while traversing the road network. Additionally, the authorities appeal to the people to pay close attention to areas prone to flash flooding and landslides.
Residents of St Kitts and Nevis must also refrain from parking in known Waterways (Ghauts). The Tropical storm passed the Leeward Islands on October 3, 2023. In the aftermath of the storm, several areas of the country saw some damage. The countries in the Leewards Islands were under strict scrutiny of the Meteorological Department and Disaster Management Authorities.
To ensure that the people may remain safe, the education ministry and government of St Kitts and Nevis announced early closure for several departments. Meanwhile, schools remained shut due in accordance with the advice of the National Emergency Management Agency
