St Kitts and Nevis Launches Mental Health Project with Taiwan's Support and ICDF.

St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, also responsible for the Ministry of Health has officially launched the Mental Health Service System Enhancement Project in collaboration with the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF).

The launch of the Mental Health Enhancement Project was held on Wednesday, November 27th, 2024 at the St Kitts Marriott Resort, aiming to strengthen the mental health support across the Federation.

PM Drew shared the glimpses from the launch of the project on his official social media account and noted that this transformative initiative focuses on strengthening mental health care by expanding resources, building capacity for mental health professionals, and improving access of service across St Kitts and Nevis.

During the launch, the Prime Minister lauded the project as it strives to normalise the notion of mental health and wellness in the nation and also help in get rid of the stigma related to the mental health disorders.

He also said that mental health is a fundamental human right and that it is vital for personal development. “Collectively, the mental health of our people enables productivity and is essential for socio-economic development of our country as well,” mentioned PM Drew.

The government has emphasized that the delivery of the mental health services is their priority and through the implementation of this new project, they will increase the allocation of funds to mental health service delivery.

He also shed light on the new hospital of the Federation which will also benefit from a new psychiatric unit.

Prime Minister Drew concluded his address expressing gratitude to the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for its invaluable partnership and investment on this critical project.

It is also to be noted that the Mental Health Service Systems Enhancement Project will be running for a period of three years, concluding in August 2027.
