Aaliyah Weekes of St Kitts has made history as the first female member of St. Paul’s Cricket Club to be selected in the West Indies U19 Women’s Squad for the upcoming tour to United Kingdom (UK).
Minister of Sports, et al., Samal Duggins took his official Facebook account to congratulate Weekes and stated that her selection for the CWI Under 19 Female World Cup preparation tour of England marks a powerful statement for women in sports across St Kitts and Nevis.
“Aaliyah, your dedication and passion continue to inspire a new generation of female athletes who dare to break barriers and redefine what’s possible,” added Minister Duggins.
Notably, this UK tour is an essential part of the team’s preparation for the ICC Women’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup that is scheduled for January 2025 in Malaysia.
Aaliyah Weekes is set to engage in a series of competitive matches, including an England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) development tournament featuring teams from Scotland and Ireland.
The West Indies U19 Women’s team will play three T20 matches and face an ECB Southern Under 19 Women’s Regional Team in a series of T20 doubleheaders and a 30-over match.
