His Majesty’s Prison (HMP) and the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) are collaborating for the rehabilitation effort of the inmates who are under sentence in the prison. St Kitts defence force is actively working on making sure that the prisoners can lead a productive life both inside and outside.

The prisoners are being given training in technical skills which help the prisoners in improving their contribution to the country. The prisoners are trained in areas like auto mechanics, welding, and agriculture and helped them in leading a crime free life.

The programme seeks to make sure that the people who are serving their sentences at the prison can come out reformed as better individuals. Major Kayode Sutton, the SKNDF Acting Commander, has expressed pride in the success of the project.

He said that in the years since the beginning of the project, the partnership of His Majesty’s Prison and St Kitts Defence force has helped many inmates. The officer said that there are several well-qualified welders, who learnt welding in His Majesty’s Prison under this programme.

The organization has helped many prisoners and inmates change the track of their lives and make better choices with their talents after their sentence. Inmate Keith Murray is a proof of the success of this transformative effort which has helped many prisoners change their lives.

The inmate said that prior to his Prison sentence, he did not have the skills that he possessed today and noted that the programme has changed him. He said that the programme has helped bring significant change in his life as he can do something that he loves doing.

Major Kayode Sutton, SKNDF Acting Commander, also highlighted that the programme has helped a Gardner learn skills for his craft. He noted that the inmates through this programme learn technical skills that helped him secure a job

Another reason that makes the programme a massive success is the organizations’ strictness in following the rules.
