Dr Denzil Douglas, who handles the responsibility for the ministries of the minister of foreign affairs, economic development, international trade, investment and commerce, has taken to his social media account to share some updates regarding the new initiatives approved by the Cabinet of St Kitts and Nevis concerning international trade and investment.
Reportedly in a recent sitting, the cabinet of St Kitts and Nevis has approved two new initiatives to promote international investment in the country. The initiatives (1) Establishment of a Special Economic Zone (2) Establishment of an Export Promotion Division were submitted to the Federal Cabinet for consideration by the St Kitts Investment Promotion Agency- (SKIPA)
Accordingly, the St Kitts Investment Promotion Agency – (SKIPA), which comes under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of International Trade, Investment and Commerce, is moving speedily to implement the two approved initiatives. The ministry further comes under the portfolio of Dr Denzil Douglas.
Accordingly, according to the update shared by Dr Denzil Douglas, the Caribbean Export Development Agency has consented to provide technical support to the St Kitts Investment Promotion Agency (SKIPA) in developing the two initiatives. Thus, Damie Sinannan, the Manager of Competitiveness and Export Promotion for the Caribbean Export Development Agency, visited St Kitts to begin the process.
During his visit, Sinannan held discussions with Dr Denzil Douglas, who handles the responsibility for the Ministries of Economic Development and Investment et al., The Ministry of Trade and The St Kitts Investment Promotion Agency – SKIPA to discuss the next steps in moving forward concerning the two initiatives.
Notably, the St Kitts Investment Promotion Agency assists the nation in securing investments for various development sectors. According to the official website of the SKIPA, the agency works to ensure investments in the fields of:
