Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources, Samal Duggins took to his social media account to share glimpses of his inspection walk to review some of the changes on the horizon for the Basseterre Public Market. The Minister of Agriculture in St Kitts and Nevis’s review included government includes structural upgrades and online shopping.

Miguel Flemming, the Permanent secretary of Agriculture, fisheries and marine resources, accompanied the Minister on his community walkthrough. Both Permanent Secretary Flemming and Minister Duggins visited the Basseterre Public Market. The Minister shared some images from the walkthrough that he ventured.

The Minister and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture also took to the initiative for the walkthrough on Friday, May 12, 2023. Minister Samal Duggins shared his views on the importance of the local markets becoming better equipped to handle the needs and demands of the people of St Kitts and Nevis. He is working on ensuring that the people of the country buy the produce of the local farmers.

Accordingly, they need to develop the agriculture sector of the country. He stated that we must create a cultural shift where our people return to purchasing locally-grown produce. We at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries & Marine Resources St Kitts understand that a major part of this shift is creating an environment at our public markets which encourages persons to support our agripreneurs.

The Minister of Agriculture, fisheries and marine resources, Samal Duggins, interacted with the local farmers and producers of food during his walkthrough of the Basseterre Public Market. The Minister also invited the people of St Kitts and Nevis to the monthly agriculture open market. The May edition of the agriculture open will be hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources on Wednesday, May 31.

He encouraged the people of St Kitts and Nevis to participate in the agriculture day open and encouraged the farmers and local producers of the country.
