Premier of Nevis and leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement, Mark Brantley, arranged his monthly press conference. The Premier, who is also the current head of the Nevis Island Administration, hosts these press conferences regularly to keep the residents and citizens under his administration updated on the various developments on the island.
He started the press conference by congratulating the citizens of Nevis for bringing laurels to the island, including Mr Erim Herbert for being the recipient of the 2022 Cedric Armbrister Scholarship from NEVLEC. This was the first ever instalment of the scholarships, which would be awarded to one deserving student every three years.
He also congratulated St Kitts and Nevis’ Joy Napier for being awarded the 2022 Chevening scholarships. He also commended the Islands Leeward U19 cricket team for winning the Cricket West Indies tournament.
Further, He announced the return of the National Heroes Day concert after a hiatus of two years owing to Covid-19. The show will feature Morgan Heritage, Freddie McGregor, Jahmiel, Green House Band, Infamous, Grand Masters Band, DJ Woodis and Selector Bobby and Toby.
Further, he also announced the Pilot desalination solar-powered plant to be established in Nevis, which would add 3400 per hour.
The Premier also announced that the retirement package for non-established workers was running on schedule and would be affected as of September 1, 2022.
Further, Premier Brantley announced that the administration would remove all fuel surcharges for domestic electricity users. For commercial users, the tariff is expected to be capped at 65%. These changes will take effect in September 2022.
He announced that significant works would commence shortly on the island’s main road, from Cliff Dwellers to Camps.
The Premier of Nevis also recollected his meeting with the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis while talking about the relationship between the two sister islands. He termed the engagement between the two leaders fruitful and stated that he was thus far optimistic about the new Prime Minister’s conduct in the office.
