St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew joined by several key ministers visited Bayford’s Livestock Farm and the Poultry Hatchery facility in St. Peters. The visit took place on July 18, 2024.

PM Terrance Drew was accompanied by Minister of Agriculture, Samal Duggins along with members of the Ministry of Agriculture; the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan); distinguished delegation from Southern University; Special Envoy for Investment, Development & International Business Relations, Hadiya Claxton.

The entire delegation made a comprehensive tour of the Bayfords Livestock Farm and the Poultry Hatchery facility and explored the possibilities to encourage collaborations that aim to advance skills of the agricultural workforce.

Minister of Agriculture shared glimpses and highlights from the visit and stated that the purpose of the tour was to explore opportunities for fostering collaboration aimed at advancing the skillsets of our agricultural workforce.

Prime Minister Terrance Drew was significantly impressed and pleased with the advancements and developments observed during the visit.

Considerably, PM Drew stated that he is from St. Peter’s and had spent a lot of happy childhood days at Bayford’s. It is a place that means a lot to the people of St Peter’s and it was his commitment to revive it.

“I am pleased to say that we are well on our way,” delightfully expressed the Prime Minister impressed with the developments during the tour.

Minister Samal Duggins mentioned that diversifying the economy through agriculture is a critical step towards ensuring sustainable growth and resilience. By investing in projects such as the Bayfords Livestock Farm and the Poultry hatchery, they are creating new opportunities for employment, innovation, and food security.

In addition to this, Agricultural Minister Duggins said that the collaborative efforts with educational institutions and international partners will further strengthen the St Kitts and Nevis agricultural sector, providing a solid cornerstone for economic diversification.

He is also enthusiastic about the progress that has been going on and the collaborative efforts that lie ahead which will enhance the agricultural sector. This would help the nation grow and achieve the 25 by 25 agenda.
