The prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis,Dr Terrance Drew recently shared a significant update regarding the celebration of 2023 Global Week of Action on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). The event will be held from September 14 to September 21, 2023 and continues the tradition started by Dr Drew wherein he and his team put the discussion of NCDs to the forefront.
The theme of this year’s event is “bridging the care gap.” The minister of health in the government of St Kitts and Nevis spoke of this at length during his national address. He assured the people of the country that his government will continue to invest in the NCD response of the country. Through his adress to the nation, Dr Drew was looking to give out the message, “now is the moment for caring”
Prime Minister Terrance Drew said that the Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs), including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, and chronic respiratory diseases are some of the most critical and major health challenges that the world faces today, Dr Drew took to his social media account to announce the beginning of the 2023 Global Week of Action on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)
Meanwhile, Dr Terrance Drew also noted that he wants this message to reach all sections of society and all health stakeholders, including NGOs, hospital staff members and more. He wants them to take on a more stringent approach towards fighting these Non Communicable diseases. It is extremely important to note that Dr Drew handles the responsibility for the ministry of health in the government of St Kitts and Nevis.
He understands the significance of providing quality healthcare to the people of the island. Accordingly, through this approach, Dr Terrance Drew and his team seek to give the issue of NCDs urgent attention and priority basis. He believes that NCDs account for more than 70 percent deaths worldwide. In St Kitts and Nevis, NCDs are the leading cause of the deaths. It is a big health challenge and we must combat it now.”
