The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew spoke at the Presidential Panel at the opening of the Intra-Africa Trade Fair. The opening of the event was hosted on September 4, with the Prime Minister getting the opportunity to interact with business and developmental partners in Africa.
In his address, the Prime Minister highlighted that the Caribbean is the sixth region of Africa, highlighting that they share roots with the Caribbean region. The Prime Minister has been calling for better cooperation between the regions.
He called on the stakeholders on both sides of the world to work on building a Trans-Atlantic bridge of hope. Through this symbolic gesture, the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis highlighted that they can work together for the economic benefit of both the regions.
The Prime Minister said that the business and trade between the two regions needs to be improved. The Prime Minister recalled that the people of the Caribbean were originally brought as part of slave trade.
They were employed in plantation work for the profit of the white European masters, who had brought them along from African nations. The Prime Minister said that they have to use that history to create a connection of hope between the two regions.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis also spoke about the impact that the collaboration between Africa and Caribbean will amount to in different sectors. He discussed the possibility of collaborations going forward in tourism, business, trade, education and more.
He also highlighted that St Kitts and Nevis has already taken steps to form a bridge between St Kitts and Nevis and the African continent. The officials have shared that it is crucial for them to work on more sustainable and long term relationships with the rest of the world.
As the sixth region of Africa, and members of the African Diaspora, the Prime Minister said their collaborative relationship will bear significant fruit for the nation in the long run.
