The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, delivered the opening remarks at the Opening Ceremony for the Basic Life Support Training for medical professionals.
According to Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew, even if they are not directly related to the process, every professional working in the hospital should be trained in some basic and advanced life support.
Further, in his remarks, Prime Minister Drew stated that this training initiative, started by the SKNLP-led administration, is in line with delivering yet another strategic component on the health plan.
The event is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Health, Ross University and the Heart Institute of the Caribbean.
Under this initiative, professionals will train over Over 200 healthcare professionals working in the various hospitals of St Kitts and Nevis in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
The training will take place from today, Friday 4th November, to Monday 7th November.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew believes that the initiative will undeniably impact the healthcare system of St Kitts and Nevis positively.
During the opening session, Dr Terrance Drew was accompanied by the permanent secretary of Ministry of Health, Delores Stapelton Harris. She also addressed the attendees of the event.
She stated, in her address, that the ministry of health strongly believes that medical providers, including doctors and nurses, should have a valid basic life support certificate.
Permanent secretary Harris believes that these skills are critical in the life of a medical and healthcare provider. The medical healthcare providers include doctors, nurses, nursing assistants and emergency medical technicians.
During the opening session, Training centre coordinator Tommye Jordon talked to the healthcare professionals about the contents of the training, which is to take place over the weekend (Friday-Monday, November 4-7, 2022)
She stated that the initiative would involve theoretical knowledge and copious amounts of hands-on learning.
