The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, has travelled to Brussels for the EU-CELAC meeting. The European Union Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States came together for the two-day summit. The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis left for Brussels on Saturday, July 15, to attend the two-day summit, starting July 17 to July 18.
During this meeting, Dr Drew is accompanying a delegation of ministers and high-level government officials. The delegation comprises the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas and the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, et al., in the government of St Kitts and Nevis, Joyelle Clarke.

The Prime Minister and his delegation represent the nation in the summit, which is being held after a gap of eight years.
The leaders representing the European Union and the Community of Latin American and the Caribbean States (CELAC) got the chance, during the Day 1 of the summit, to deliver their opening remarks and expand upon their plans and aspirations for the development of their nation.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew attended the meeting alongside several other prominent Caribbean Leaders including PM Roosevelt Skerrit of the Commonwealth of Dominica, President of Guyana, Irfan Ali among others.
Dr Terrance Drew, who was ably assisted by his delegation, expanded upon the goal of St Kitts and Nevis to grow in the form of a sustainable island nation. The leaders discussed a number of critical issues during day one of the summit. One of the most crucial issues in the discussion was the provision of financial and economic assistance to address the climate fallout.
St Kitts and Nevis has remained a persistent advocate of climate action in the Caribbean. On several international platforms, Joyelle Clarke, minister of environment and sustainable development et al. also made some relentless efforts to sensitize the world to the repercussions that the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) face due to the climate crisis.
The EU-CELAC Summit Day 1 also discussed key matters of interest that impact the region and sought effective resolutions. These critical issues include the current situation in Haiti and the embargo on Cuba. Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew asserted that he seeks to offer his intervention on these topics.
Meanwhile, the minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas also worked diligently furthered the international ties of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis. The Foreign Minister, Dr Douglas held significant talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Romania Luminita Odobesçu, held talks on the potential for strengthened cooperation between both countries. The meeting took place following the conclusion of the EU-CELAC Summit.
