The Minister of Sustainable development, Constituency empowerment and the environment, Joyelle Clarke, has taken to her social media account to share an update on the Solid Waste Management and Recycling Project. The project is being implemented by the department of environment and Ministry of education in collaboration with the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF)
At the same time, Minister Joyelle Clarke took the opportunity to commend St Paul’s Primary School for being one of the first schools in the rural area to establish a recycling system. She also explained that the school is a part of the Solid Waste Management and Recycling Project. As a part of the said project, the school installed a recycling bin just for plastic bottles.
Joyelle Clarke further explained thatAs a part of the Solid Waste Management and Recycling Project, the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF), working in partnership with the Department of Environment and the Ministry of Education, has earmarked thirteen other primary schools across St Kitts. The team of ICDF picked these schools to install bins for recycling plastic bottles.
In addition to the recycle bin, Members of the Taiwan Technical Mission also educated the students and staff of these schools regarding the recycling process. They also gave the staff and students of the thirteen primary schools mini demonstrations on how to recycle.
Implementing the Solid Waste Management and Recycling Project is one of the critical mandates of the government of St Kitts and Nevis. The project is crucial for the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable development, headed by Joyelle Clarke to meet its mandate of fighting climate change. St Kitts and Nevis is extremely vocal on international platforms regarding the issue of climate change and the negative repercussions that small island developing States (SIDS) face due to the same.
Accordingly, the Solid Waste Management and Recycling Project initiative is a step in the right direction to ensure that the country is doing its part in climate action.
