Basseterre, St Kitts: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew led the launch of the much-awaited ‘Sound Your Future’ Music Summer Camp on Monday, August 19, 2024.
The 2024 edition of this musical summer camp is held under the theme of “Building Our Own Unique Sound to Create a Future We Love to Hear,” which will develop the musical skills of the attendees.
The week-long summer camp will provide the young minds with a platform for learning, growth, and creativity and focus on their overall development.
The organisers mentioned the objectives of the ‘Sound Your Future’ Music Camp and stated that their aim is to nurture musical talent by providing opportunities to refine and enhance their skills while serving as the platform for encouraging new talent.
They also said that their prime focus is to enable participants to gain the confidence that is needed to perform with assurance.
In addition to this, the camp will provide the attendees with a variety of musical styles and along with this, emphasise the significance of building social relationships. It will also encourage the development of healthy habits that contribute to their over-all growth.
Prime Minister Drew has collaborated with National Calypso Monarch Queen Independent, for this initiative as a means to improve music skills and also to develop well-rounded individuals who can contribute positively to society.
Significantly, Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Naeemah Hazelle delivered opening address at the launch ceremony, highlighting the vitality of creating environments that offer alternatives to negative activities.
She underscored that the camp provides a safe space for young people to engage in constructive activities, preventing them from falling into high-risk situations.
Notably, the camp is supported by a diverse group of facilitators, including Jelani Shaw from Trinidad, Cory Tyson from Nevis, MJ Byron from St. Kitts, Loughlin Tatem from St. Kitts, Creighton Pension from St. Kitts, Venelle Powell from Nevis, and Larry Vaughan from St. Kitts.
All these facilitators will guide participants in various fields such as writing, performance, production, business, et al., providing them with knowledge and skills.
According to PM Drew, the “Sound Your Future” Music Summer Camp 2024, is a movement towards building a future that aligns with creativity, friendship, and positive change.
