Nevis: A memorial has been revealed at the New River Estate made in the memory and honour of Melford O’Flaherty who was the late Estate Manager at the facility.
Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley attended the revealing ceremony of the memorial and expressed his delight in recognising their contributions and achievements.
Melford O’Flaherty used to give guided tours to students and visitors of the old sugar factory and emphasised on its significance in context with the history of St Kitts and Nevis. Premier Brantley said that the day at the New River Estate was delightful as they gathered in the memory of late Estate Manager.
This significant initiative was organized by the government of Nevis to honour him in collaboration with his daughter Phyllis O’Flaherty.
The Ministry of Tourism also made a contribution in the unveiling of the memorial and mentioned that it is a crucial part of the rich heritage of the island nation.
Mark Brantley took his Facebook to share glimpses of the ceremony and the memorial and praised the contributions of Melford O’Flaherty in enlightening people with the rich culture and heritage of Nevis. He also appreciated the efforts of Phyllis O’Flaherty to have her father memorised in this way.
It is also to be noted that late Flaherty also contributed in the agriculture sector of Nevis and supported the efforts of enhancing the local farming opportunities. He supported the production of the local crops that are grown by the local community of St Kitts and Nevis.
Premier Mark Brantley stated,” I applaud her efforts to have her father memorialized in this way and say THANK YOU to late Mr O’Flaherty for his tremendous contribution to the agricultural sector in Nevis.”
Premier Brantley also mentioned that, “We must continue to honour and remember those who made a way so that we today can see.”
