The First lady of St Kitts and Nevis, Diani Prince-Drew was among special guests at the Menstrual Hygiene Initiative spearheaded by First Lady Arya Ali of Guyana on Monday. Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew extended his greetings and applauded First Lady of Guyana for executing this substantial move.
In a social media post on Tuesday, he shared some glimpses of the meeting and informed the communities about this significant initiative launched to serve the girls with proper Menstural Hygiene products. The initiative was held earlier on Monday at the Umana Yana in Kingston, Georgetown, Guyana.
PM Drew stated,”My beautiful wife, First Lady Diani Prince-Drew, along with First Ladies Eloise Gonsalves of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Ann Marie Davis of The Bahamas, were honoured guests at the Menstrual Hygiene Initiative spearheaded by First Lady Arya Ali of Guyana.”
Further, he also emphasised the importance of this initiative to ensure that every girl benefits from it. “The Menstrual Hygiene Initiative, championed by the Office of the First Lady of Guyana in September 2021, has been committed to eradicating period poverty in the region,” he added.
PM Drew commented upon the vision of First Lady Arya Ali to enforce this initiative into the region. “First Lady Ali’s vision aims to ensure that every girl has access to essential menstrual hygiene products, emphasizing the importance of dignity and inclusivity,” he stated.
At last, on his wife’s behalf , he praised the First Lady of Guyana, “My wife and I commend First Lady Ali’s initiative for its significant impact on the lives of thousands of women and girls.” he remarked.
During the event, the ongoing challenges, regarding menstruation among girls were addressed, Such as the lack of access to resources and facilities for managing menstrual cycles among Caribbean girls.
First Lady Prince-Drew underlined the critical importance of menstrual hygiene and eradicating the period poverty that is affecting teen girls. She praised the First Lady of Guyana for this initiative to impact the lives of thousands of women and girls, and safeguarding their well-being.
