St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew with other Prime Ministers of the OECS visited St Vincent and Grenadines (SVG) to meet the Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves. The meet aimed to assess the devastation caused by the Category 4 Hurricane Beryl.

The Prime Ministers made the visit on Tuesday and PM Terrance Drew shared glimpses of the island and called the sight ‘pure devastation.’ The visit was to assess the level of destruction caused by the Hurricane Beryl.

“Here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines with Prime Minister Gonsalves and all other Prime Minister of the OECS. I took pictures while flying over Union Island. This is pure devastation,” noted PM Drew while sharing the pictures on his Facebook post.

He was joined by Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of Dominica; Philip J. Pierre, the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia; Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, Premier of Cayman Islands; and Gaston Browne, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda.

It is also to be noted that Category 4 Hurricane Beryl has caused severe damage in St Vincent and the Grenadines. The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis along with the heads of Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) visited the areas struck by the hurricane.

During the visit, PM Drew expressed his support to the residents of the affected island. “We continue to stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the affected islands,” he stated.

In addition to offering support, PM Terrance Drew talked about climate change. He highlighted that the climate change is here and it is a clear message to everyone in the Caribbean that they must prepare for it.

Notably, he stated that St. Kitts and Nevis has started its preparedness and will continue to do so to keep the citizens of the island safe from the impacts of the climate change.
