Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew discussed several initiatives during the recent Roundtable discussion. He highlighted that one of the successful initiatives was the 90-day anti-crime campaign that helped the Federation significantly in bringing down the crime rate in the nation.

PM Drew said the 90-days that passed during the anti-crime campaign were successful because of the engagement brought about by law enforcement agencies with local communities, political parties, and citizens.
He further said that data-backed strategies would inform them of their crime reduction efforts, he said, adding, ‘family problems, peer pressure, and economic issues’ were listed as major contributors to the crime in a USAID – backed study.
Notably, the citizens and residents of St Kitts and Nevis can look forward to a brighter and safer future ahead, now that the 90-day anti-crime campaign is a success.
Major initiatives and strategies
- Community Involvement – The team leading the 90-day campaign program, engaged the citizenry through local centers, villages, and schools, involving as many people in the fight against crime.
- Youth Guidance – Special guidance to the youth towards focus and positive employment, as a means of preventing drifting towards criminal activities.
- Addressing Familial Issues – It focuses on dealing with family issues, which provide a cause for crimes, and the government has appointed 20 family counselors with whom they will further expand this project.
- Economic Empowerment – The government is trying to create new job opportunities for youth and it is trying to address the issues that are leading to increasing crimes.
- Technological Upgrades – The government has invested in the upgrading of technology being used by law enforcement agencies, including communication tools and advanced analytical tools.
