Over the last 24 years, the National Housing Corporation has provided thousands of housing solutions for residents in St. Kitts.
Providing affordable housing is the primary aim of the NHC.
However, the Minister of Human Settlement, Honourable Eugene Hamilton, said that the economic spinoffs are notable.
He stated on the radio and television programme Working for You on September 2 that the construction activity is adding value to the overall economic activity of the Federation, providing jobs for persons who are masons, carpenters, plumbers and electricians.
Hiring independent contractors ensures that the economic impact is spread out even further across the country, and most of them have a small business or are self-employed.
The income which is earned by the workers is used in providing for their families.
Minister Hamilton expressed that they are providing food, clothing and shelter by what they do at NHC.
He added that the people see it as just the shelter, but if it is seen with a broader perspective, food is provided, clothing is provided, love and harmony in the home are also provided.
The minister then said that he was proud of the contributions that NHC is making to the national development agenda and also the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The management and staff of NHC are celebrating their 24th Anniversary this.
