Guest Speaker at the Prime Minister’s New Year Gala, Marci Ien, Canada’s Minister of Women and Gender Affairs, delivered a keynote address where she spoke about the meaning of sustainability. 

Marci Ien, Canada’s Minister of Women and Gender Affairs, started her address by thanking the St Kitts and Nevis prime minister, Dr Terrance Drew, for inviting her to speak at the New’s Eve gala.  

Minister Marci Ien accentuated that with the ongoing conflict in Haiti, Africa and Europe, the rise in global inflation and climate change, people need to remember to move with the vision of a sustainable tomorrow. 

 Canada’s Minister of Women and Gender Affairs highlighted that in Canada, they had expanded network social safety by launching a national dental plan, child care program, and action plan to end gender-based violence. 

Minister Marci Ien underlined that their government passed some of the most progressive environmental legislatures in the world to combat climate change and make sure that we people live in a better and more sustainable environment for children and children.  

We have done all this whilst keeping in our role to support our friends and allies support ours in the community. The friendships and partnerships between Canada and St. Kitts and Nevis are a perfect example of this. Minister Marci Ien noted

Further, Minister Marci Ien highlighted that she got a chance to meet with the youth parliament and society of St Kitts and Nevis. 

Minister Marci Ien highlighted that she was impressed with the young people of St. Kitts and Nevis. She stressed that they have vision and passion, and they are acting upon it,, They’re building the community and building up St. Kitts.  

The St. Kitts and Nevis Youth Parliament defined sustainability in their own way.

Minister Marci Ien highlighted that the president of St. Kitts and Nevis youth told her that youth is a driving force in the St Kitts and Nevis country. 

Minister Marci Ien highlighted that the young people know they can stand by whilst climate change is tacking up. They have shown the elders that more needs to be done, and the clock is ticking.

 Be courageous to do the bold thing you think you can’t do, serving in a powerful thing, and you should practise it. We can achieve so much when our voice comes together, noted Minister Marci Ien
