St Kitts and Nevis: The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas, met with the United Nations Coordinator for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Didier Trebucq and his team on Thursday during his courtesy visit to St Kitts and Nevis.
As per the information, the UN Coordinator, Didier Trebucq, was accompanied by his team, including Uzumma Erume, the Director of Economic and Development Coordination, and Cosbert Woods, the UN Country Coordinator of Saint Kitts and Nevis.
The meeting aimed to update Minister Douglas on the ongoing activities of the United Nations in St Kitts and Nevis and seek input from him regarding the anticipated growth of the nation’s Sustainable Island State Agenda.
The UN Coordinator, Trebucq, lauded the nation on the successful conclusion of its first Voluntary National Review 2023 and for the adequate progress of the country towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals Agenda 2030.
At last, Minister Douglas was delighted to meet Trebucq. He extended his gratitude for the multicipated support of the United Nations in assisting and encouraging the nation towards becoming a sustainable island state.
Notably, the meeting was based on active collaboration, discussions and strategies to enhance their relations and strengthen the ties between the UN and the nation. The meeting was also a significant step towards achieving the nation’s sustainability goals.
Meanwhile, the UN Coordinator, Trebucq, also met with Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew at his office, the government’s headquarters in Basseterre.
The two had a fruitful discussion on the collaboration between the UN and St Kitts and Nevis and the development of a new UN Country Implementation Plan for the upcoming two years.
A UN Country Implementation Plan (UN CIP) is a roadmap that guides the United Nations’ cooperation with a specific country in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Following their meeting, PM Drew expressed his happiness at meeting with Trebucq. He also thanked the government and the nation for their effective partnership towards achieving the mission of sustainability by empowering youth, fostering digital transition, providing renewable energy, and more.
