Deputy Prime Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley has expressed that he is excited to see meaningful strides in the Orange Economy for all stakeholders. Especially he mentioned that he was excited for the creators among us.
Several creatives in the Caribbean Region have demanded why their work is not rewarded in their home countries and across the world. In such a situation, the Eastern Caribbean Collectives Organization is working on devising ways to repair the damage and protect the rights of event promoters, content creators, musicians, songwriters and entities directly and indirectly affected.
St Kitts and Nevis are also working with the ECCO to protect their creative industry better. In line with this thought, Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Geoffrey Hanley noted that St Kitts and Nevis’ Orange Economy is fast growing in partnership with global growth. Further, he added, It is helpful to ensure that all our people understand how the Orange Economy will serve as an essential economic buffer for our nation.
Following this, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley explained, “the Orange Economy is named this way because the colour orange denotes creativity, which centres around the arts and culture.”
He expressed that technological advancements are shaping this (orange) economy. It is allowing vast sectors such as telecommunications, music, content creation and the like to create job opportunities for our citizens and drive the economic engine of our young federation.
Dr Geoffrey Hanley has demonstrated his confidence in the Attorney General, Hon. Garth Wilkin’s advocacy for legislation that is fair for all stakeholders. This includes the licensing of all paid events.
ECCO represents music creators and songwriters in the Caribbean. The organization is headquartered in St Lucia. It monitors the work of experts in the region and throughout the world to ensure the rights of creators are not compromised.
One of the main objectives of ECCO is to promote the licensing of events so creators can get paid for their work.
