Dr Terrance Drew has been working hard to provide healthcare opportunities for the people of St Kitts and Nevis. Nearly three years in power, Dr Drew has overhauled the healthcare system of the federation with new technology and better health services.
The Primary Healthcare Institution of St Kitts and Nevis, JNF General Hospital has seen significant advancement under the leadership of Dr Drew and his team. Being a practicing doctor before he ventured into the world of Politics, he understands the importance of well-developed healthcare systems.
As such, Dr Drew and his team at the Ministry of Health have been working tirelessly to make sure all the facilities are available to the people of the country. In the last two years the JNF General hospital has received new equipment for the eye clinic.
During one of Dr Drew’s earliest visits at the hospital, he had termed the situation as less than ideal. JNF General Hospital had aging equipment which was not able to meet the needs of the people.
The hospital did not have a CT Scan Machine in place, which forced youngsters to travel off island for tests. The acquisition of a fully functional state of the art CT Scan Machine, which was done under the Dr Drew administration, had been long awaited.
The machine came online late in 2024, after which the people are getting fast and accurate diagnosis. The people also do not have to leave the island to get reports
Since 2022, JNF General Hospital has acquired several new equipment for their eye clinic, cardiac unit and other departments, adding to the diagnostic capacity of the federation.
Currently, the JNF General Hospital has access to modern EEG and EKG machines. The addition of these equipment has been a gamechanger for neurological and cardiac diagnostics.
Equipment to replace the ageing inventory of the eye clinic was also updated to allow people to access eye health facilities and eye surgeries. The hospital also has a fully equipped haemodialysis unit.
The addition of the haemodialysis unit to the hospital has been another significant boost to the healthcare capacity of the country. The patients do not have to travel out of the island to get emergency dialysis and kidney care.
The officials have shared that the health sector of the country has seen tremendous advancements under Dr Terrance Drew led administration. They have shared that the JNF General Hospital has the highest numbers of specialists in the country, which is an achievement for the health sector of the federation.
