Minister of Foreign Affairs of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Denzil Douglas, extended greetings and warm wishes to President, Cricket West Indies, Richard “Ricky” Skerritt. Skerrit received an award from Caribbean Premier League (CPL) CEO Pete Russell at Guyana’s CPL 10th-anniversary celebrations event.
Richard Skerritt served as the former Minister of Tourism for St Kitts and Nevis.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Douglas took to social media and shared President Skerritt’s Response to his warm wishes, which is as follows:
“Good evening, Ladies and Gentlemen. Please Allow me to adopt the protocols already established. I must, however, acknowledge the presence of His Excellency President Ali, who we all know is a huge cricket fan. I know that his government has big investment plans for Guyana cricket and sports tourism, and I congratulate him for putting his words into action.
Increased Government investment is vital if West Indies cricket aims to achieve sustainable success. My tenure as the president of CWI was based on my integrity and passion for the game (of cricket), and I had no desire to be recognized for anything.
But this CPL award tonight is a special honour for me. I say this because I am being recognized for forging a more strategic relationship between CWI and CPL which was one of my early objectives on entering office.
We have proven that CPL and its franchise owners could be key partners in developing our talent pool. And when you add the attraction of new fans and sponsors to the game, it is clear that CPL is a positive force in West Indies cricket.
The three-year-old emerging player’s program, the brand new 6ixty competition, and the recent launch of the Women’s CPL are all welcomed outputs of our strengthened partnership.
