While his note to the Hon Ian Patches Liburd the East Basseterre representative, fell on deaf ears, it was the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) candidate, Dr Geoffrey Hanley, who swung into action.
“Dear mister Rep for Newtown (Ian Patches Liburd) or who ever wants to be in future. This is what Newtown Bay (bottom of Sandown Road) looks like at 6:30 Monday morning,” Omari Brown posted on his Facebook page on July 1, 2019.
“The only natural resource we have is our bay to bathe. Now is either you get it cleaned or I will be here on Saturday morning 6:30 cleaning it myself,” said Browne, a
Newtown man. Browne also posted photos of the huge accumulation of plastic bottles.
On July 2, 2019, youth activist, Cedric Nurse posted photos of the SKNLP candidate Dr Geoffrey Hanley and two Young Labour members removing the plastic bottles from the area.
“People of (St Christopher 1 (East Basseterre), you deserve what’s best for you,” posted Nurse, who noted “that earlier in the week, a concern constituent complained on his FaceBook page about how dirty the bay looks down Sanddown Road.”
“It took a good caring Dr Geoffrey Haley and some members of the St Kitts and Nevis Young Labour to get it clean,” said Nurse.
He proffered: “A healthy nation is a wealthy nation. Clean water is good for everyone.”
Nurse congratulated Dr Hanley and his team.
“When the (Team Unity) government failed to do it, we did it. Vote for Hanley for a brighter future, a brighter East Basseterre,” said Nurse who referred to Dr Hanley as “a man that cares about his people’s health.”
